Scott HearndenBoard Member > Scott Hearnden
Hailing from Australia, Scott Hearnden is the former President of the AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacific (ASAP) and was formerly ASAP’s Executive Director between 2002 and 2009. He has volunteered and worked in HIV/AIDS field for almost 30 years, commencing with the Albion Street HIV Centre in Sydney as well as with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. During his early career, Scott worked at the New South Wales Anti-Discrimination Board. He was the Registrar of the New South Wales Equal Opportunity Tribunal and later became an Investigation and Conciliation Officer with the Australian Human Rights Commission. Being a consultant on projects with international and local civil society partners as well as various United Nations agencies throughout the Asia and Pacific region is part of his experience.
In the 1990s he co-founded the Australasian Gay and Lesbian Pilots’ Network. He was a part-time flight instructor and charter pilot at Bankstown Airport. Scott has undergraduate qualifications in physics, post-graduate qualifications in international relations and is currently undertaking further post-graduate research in peace and conflict studies through the University of Sydney.
