APCOM at 2015 ILGA Asia

The 6th ILGA-Asia Regional Conference took place in Taipei, Taiwan; and APCOM conducted exciting agenda for the conference (see below).

The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) is a global network of LGBT activists, which today has more than 1,000 affiliated organizations in 119 countries. ILGA-Asia is the largest gathering of LGBT activists in Asia. A diverse range of member organizations from the smallest collectives to national and international groups is flocking in the three-day conference to forward the equality agenda.


The UN Reports & Resolutions: A maze of a useful tool for advancing human rights of LGBTI persons in Asia?

The session comprised presentations and discussions on whether or not UN reports and resolutions had provided an effective platform for the community advocates in advancing the basic rights of marginalised LGBT community in Asia.

The session’s speakers: Professor Douglas Sanders (Academic Associate at Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, Thailand), Arvind Narrain (Geneva Director of ARC International), Shakhawat Hossain (Programme Manager at Boys of Bangladesh) and Jonas Bagas (Programme Associate at B-Change).

Christianity, Sexual Diversity and Access to Health

The session encompassed presentations and discussions on intersecting issues of Christianity, sexual diversity and access to sexual healthcare. Topics included Christian viewpoints that oppose and support LGBTIQ people and their issues, and collaborations between LGBTIQ and HIV civil society organisations and Christian groups in Asia.

The session’s speakers: Rev. Miak Siaw, the pastor of Free Community Churh, Singapore’s only gay-affirming curch; and Joseph N. Goh, a scholar in gender, sexuality and theology at the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Monash University, Malaysia.
